PRINCIPAL ENGINEER



JOB                    Principal Engineer


LOCATION      Sheffield


DISCIPLINE    Mechanical  Engineering


EDUCATION    A degree-level qualification, or equivalent


POSITION       Full Time -  Permanent


PAY                    £40k-£55k - Depending on experience


A rare opportunity now exists for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join Brier in a newly created role based out of our Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Park workshop.


You will provide technical leadership and decision making, whilst working directly along side the directors to help create solutions for our clients problems.


This is a terrific opportunity for an experienced and highly qualified Mechanical Engineer to join an ambitious and extremely successful team with the responsibility for mechanical engineering development aspects across a range of projects.

Your Role:

 • Run turnkey design projects - create solutions for our clients problems.

 • Act as Project Leader on selected projects.

 • Attend principle meetings and make client presentations on selected projects.

 • Raise and promote the level of technical excellence within the team.

 • Be a point of contact for key clients.

 • Help generate repeat business through customer care of existing clients.

 • Work on a variety of interesting projects across numerous sectors.

 • You will be client facing and involved in all stages of the projects.

 • Work closely with others in a team environment to achieve a common goal.

 • Produce concepts and detail designs to clients specifications.

 • Produce engineering drawings and specifications.

 • Produce calculations and/or guiding others to complete them.

 • Assist in the procurement of components.

 • Assist in the assembly and test of final engineering solutions.


What you'll need to succeed:

 • Degree qualified - mechanical engineering (Chartered or working towards).

 • A minimum of 5 years' experience in designing bespoke machinery.

 • Comfortable working from a blank sheet through to a delivered solution.

 • Excellent grasp of engineering fundamentals.

 • Ability to pare back complex problems to their simple engineering first principles.

 • Experience in interacting with clients. 

 • Experience in  project management.

 • Working knowledge of SOLIDWORKS, MathCAD.

 • Working knowledge of ANSYS and AutoCAD beneficial.

 • Working knowledge of British and European Standards.

 • Working knowledge of Machinery safety regulations.

 • Experience in reading and producing manufacturing drawings.

 • Knowledge of various manufacturing techniques and processes.
